First flight of RS1, designated DEMO-1. Eleven seconds after liftoff, a fire in the aft section damaged key harnessing, cutting power to the nine first-stage engines and sending the vehicle back onto the launch pad. The explosion damaged the launch facility; no personnel were injured. Investigation traced the fire to plume recirculation caused by the launch mount and flame deflector, which overloaded RS1's base heat shield.

VariSat-1A and 1B were cubesats built for OmniTeq to test a high-frequency radio payload and the company's Equalizer deployer. They would have joined VariSat-1C, which had reached orbit on a Falcon 9 rideshare in May 2022, completing a planned three-satellite network.
