Yahsat 1A
Success
APR 22201121:37:00 UTCAriane 5 ECA carried two geostationary communications satellites, Yahsat 1A and Intelsat's New Dawn (later renamed Intelsat 28). After reaching orbit, New Dawn's C-band reflector antenna stayed stuck against the satellite's body, caught in the billows of its sun shield. Ground teams spent days shaking the antenna and alternating its temperature before deploying the Ku-band antenna on the opposite side, which came free, and the C-band antenna never did. The defect was expected to cost about two years of New Dawn's service life.
