Intelsat 29e

Ariane 5 ECA launched Intelsat 29e as its only payload. The Boeing-built satellite provided C-band video and data service over South America and Ku-band coverage across the Americas, including North Atlantic flight routes.

On 7 April 2019 a propellant leak damaged its propulsion system, and a second anomaly on 9 April cut communication with it. Telescope observations then showed the satellite tumbling and shedding debris as it drifted through the geostationary arc. Intelsat declared it a total loss on 18 April, about three years into a planned 15-year service life.
