Due to programming errors in the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) system, the satellites were placed on an off-nominal orbit. Both payloads completed corrective maneuvers and entered service later in 2018.

The incident ended the Ariane 5 record series of 82 consecutive successful launches, which had run from April 2003 to December 2017.
