MTG-I2

Second Meteosat Third Generation imaging satellite, joining MTG-I1 (Meteosat-12), which launched in December 2022. MTG-I1 images the full Earth disc every 10 minutes; MTG-I2 is built to scan Europe every 2.5 minutes for faster views of severe storms and wildfires.

The satellite was developed by ESA for EUMETSAT and built by a consortium led by Thales Alenia Space. It reached geostationary transfer orbit on Ariane 6 and then climbed to its operational geostationary orbit under its own power.
