Tang Hongbo commanded his second spaceflight, having previously flown on Shenzhou 12 in 2021 - the first crewed docking at Tiangong. He was joined by Tang Shengjie and Jiang Xinlin, both making their first spaceflights; the crew was the youngest Tiangong rotation by average age since station construction began.

In December 2023, Tang Hongbo and Tang Shengjie conducted an EVA to repair micrometeoroid and debris damage to the Tianhe core module's solar panels - China's first in-orbit repair task of this kind.
