H-IIA released Michibiki 3 about 28 minutes after liftoff for Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System, which improves GPS positioning in cities where tall buildings block low-elevation satellites. Unlike the system's inclined-orbit satellites, Michibiki 3 was bound for geostationary orbit at 127°E.
