Maiden flight of Progress-M1, a cargo variant reworked to carry far more propellant than the standard Progress at the expense of dry cargo, intended chiefly for reboosting and refueling space stations. It flew first to the by-then uncrewed Mir, docking to the Kvant-1 port, as a precursor to the type's planned role supporting the new International Space Station.
