Crewed flight with three cosmonauts.

Maiden flight of the Soyuz MS spacecraft, a modernized design featuring the lighter Kurs-NA rendezvous system, improved navigation and communications electronics, enhanced micrometeoroid shielding on the orbital module, and more capable solar panels. Many of the upgrades had been flight-proven on Progress cargo missions.
