NEXTSat-2, the 180 kg primary payload, was a technology demonstrator for an X-band synthetic aperture radar instrument developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).

Third flight of Nuri and the first carrying an operational research payload; the rocket's two preceding flights had used test masses to validate the vehicle's performance.
