Third flight of a reused Falcon 9 first stage. The booster had launched a Dragon cargo mission to the International Space Station in February 2017, and after this flight it landed a second time, on a drone ship at sea.

The satellite is shared by two operators: its 24 C-band transponders are sold by SES as SES-11 and its 24 Ku-band transponders by EchoStar as EchoStar 105. It took over the capacity of two older satellites at 105 degrees West.
