IM-2 was Intuitive Machines' second mission under NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services program, targeting Mons Mouton near the lunar South Pole with the Nova-C Athena lander carrying PRIME-1 - a NASA ice-prospecting suite built around the TRIDENT drill and MSolo mass spectrometer. Athena touched down on 6 March 2025, reaching closer to the South Pole than any prior lander, but an altimeter failure during descent caused it to land on its side; operations ended within 13 hours with PRIME-1 unable to drill. Odin, an asteroid-prospecting probe manifested for AstroForge, lost contact after deployment and never headed for near-Earth asteroid 2022 OB5; Lunar Trailblazer, a NASA water-mapping orbiter, was also lost after separation.
