Part of SES's C-band fleet replenishment following the FCC's spectrum reallocation, which required satellite operators to vacate mid-band C-band frequencies to make room for 5G terrestrial networks. The two Boeing 702SP all-electric satellites were placed at 103° West and 131° West for television broadcast and data services across the United States.

Final flight of the Atlas V 531 configuration, which flew only five times in the twelve years between its 2010 debut and this mission.
