Artemis II
Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen became the first crew to travel beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in December 1972. Flying a free-return lunar flyby trajectory, Orion made its closest lunar approach on flight day 6 at roughly 4,067 miles above the surface, capturing imagery of the far side before the crew splashed down off San Diego on April 11.
Glover became the first person of color, Koch the first woman, and Hansen - representing the Canadian Space Agency - the first non-US citizen to travel to lunar distance. The mission reached a maximum distance of 252,756 miles (406,771 km) from Earth, surpassing the distance record set by the Apollo 13 crew in 1970.
