Luna 25

Success
AUG 10202323:10:57 UTC

First mission of the Luna-Glob Moon exploration programme, intended to land near Boguslavsky crater.

The Soyuz-2.1b/Fregat stack successfully delivered the spacecraft to its planned trans-lunar trajectory. On 19 August an anomalous orbit-lowering maneuver caused the spacecraft to impact the lunar surface: the maneuvering engine ran for 127 seconds instead of the commanded 84 and could not be shut off. Roscosmos confirmed the loss the following day.
