Delta II
American medium-lift GPS and planetary-probe rocket
Delta II first flew in February 1989 with a GPS satellite, and it launched GPS satellites until 2009. It also sent NASA to Mars again and again: Pathfinder, Odyssey, the rovers Spirit and Opportunity, and the Phoenix lander all left Earth on a Delta II. It failed outright only once, in January 1997, when it exploded 13 seconds after liftoff with a GPS satellite aboard. Its last launch, ICESat-2, was in September 2018.
