The first crewed flight of New Shepard included two passengers who set age records. Wally Funk, at 82, became the oldest person to reach space at the time - one of the Mercury 13, the women who passed the same astronaut qualification tests as NASA candidates in the early 1960s but were never chosen to fly. Oliver Daemen, 18, became the youngest person in space and the first paying customer of Blue Origin; he replaced the anonymous auction winner who withdrew due to a scheduling conflict. Jeff Bezos and his brother Mark completed the four-person crew.

Blue Origin launched on 20 July 2021, the 52nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.
