NS-23

Failure
SEP 12202214:27:00 UTC

New Shepard flew uncrewed with 36 payloads from universities, research institutions and students, two of them mounted on the outside of the rocket. About a minute after liftoff the nozzle of the booster's engine failed, and the resulting thrust misalignment fired the capsule's escape motor. The capsule pulled clear and landed under parachutes; the booster was lost on impact.

Blue Origin traced the failure to engine nozzle overheating above design temperatures. New Shepard next flew on NS-24 in December 2023.
