Fengyun 3G

Fengyun 3G is China's first dedicated precipitation measurement satellite and the third such spacecraft globally, after the US-Japan Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission in 1997 and the GPM Core Observatory in 2014. Its primary instrument, the Precipitation Measurement Radar (PMR), uses a dual-frequency Ku/Ka-band system to map the three-dimensional structure of precipitation inside typhoons, heavy rainfall events, and snowstorms across the middle and low latitudes.
