First flight of India's Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). A sensor fault during second-stage separation switched the guidance system into open-loop mode, causing both payloads to be placed into an unusable transatmospheric orbit of 356 km x 76 km.

Among those lost was AzaadiSAT - an 8U CubeSat assembled by 750 students from 75 rural government schools across India as part of a programme marking the country's 75th year of independence.
