This cluster launch carried the first satellites of the Disaster Monitoring Constellation, a low-cost Earth-imaging network built by Surrey Satellite Technology for several nations and designed so that small, near-identical spacecraft could be pooled to revisit disaster zones far more often than any single satellite could. The constellation gave its partner countries their own imaging capability for the first time, among them Nigeria, whose NigeriaSat-1 was the country's first satellite.
