Kosmos
Soviet ICBM-derived small-lift orbital rocket family
The Soviet Union's go-to rocket for small military and scientific satellites, derived from the R-12 ballistic missile. First flown in 1962 from Kapustin Yar — the first Soviet orbital launch not to use the R-7 — Kosmos variants accumulated hundreds of launches over four decades of quiet government service.
