Soviet missile-derived small-lift orbital rocket

The Soviet Union's go-to rocket for small military and scientific satellites, derived from the R-12 and R-14 ballistic missiles. First flown in 1961 from Kapustin Yar — the first Soviet orbital launch not to use the R-7 — Kosmos variants accumulated hundreds of launches over five decades of quiet government service.
