Notes from the launch

RazakSAT was a 180 kg Earth-observation satellite developed jointly by Malaysia's Astronautic Technology Sdn Bhd and South Korea's Satrec Initiative. It was the first paying customer SpaceX had ever launched. On 14 July 2009, a Falcon 1 carried it to a near-equatorial orbit at roughly 685 km — an inclination of 9 degrees, chosen so the satellite could revisit Malaysian territory far more frequently than a sun-synchronous orbit would allow.

No Falcon 1 flew after that. SpaceX had concluded that the small rocket could not be made into a viable business on its own and turned its resources toward the Falcon 9. Customers who had booked Falcon 1 flights were offered rideshare slots on the larger vehicle instead. RazakSAT was the only operational satellite the rocket ever delivered.
