Falcon 1
SpaceX small-lift orbital rocket
SpaceX's first rocket failed three times before reaching orbit on its fourth attempt, 28 September 2008 — the first privately built, liquid-fuelled rocket to do so. Elon Musk later said that a fifth failure would have ended the company. Five flights total; it was retired in 2009 once Falcon 9 was ready.
