MAR 25200020:34:00 UTCIMAGE was the first spacecraft built to photograph Earth's magnetosphere as a whole rather than sample it point by point. From a polar orbit it used neutral-atom, ultraviolet, and radio imaging to capture the invisible plasma populations every couple of minutes, tracking how the magnetosphere swelled and reshaped during solar storms. It fell silent in 2005, then was unexpectedly picked up again by an amateur radio astronomer in 2018.
