SBIRS GEO-6 completed the Space-Based Infrared System's geosynchronous constellation in August 2022, giving the U.S. Space Force persistent infrared surveillance from orbit for detecting ballistic missile launches. NG-OPIR-GEO 1 begins its planned replacement, assigned the USSF-57 mission designation.
