Space Test Program 5 carries two DoD research experiments. SIRI-3, built by the Naval Research Laboratory, is the third and most ambitious in a series of strontium iodide radiation instruments - scaled up to approach the detector area needed for operational space-based radiation monitoring. PUMA, a Flight Works propulsion demonstrator for the Air Force Research Laboratory, flight-tests a modular green-propellant thruster system designed for on-orbit refueling and sustained maneuvering.
