Indian small-lift solid-fuel orbital rocket

ISRO's transitional rocket between the SLV and PSLV — two SLV strap-ons bolted to an SLV core to carry about 150 kg instead of 40. Two of its four launches failed outright and a third left its satellite in too low an orbit; they ran from 1987 to 1994. The programme was quietly dropped in favour of the PSLV, which became the rocket ISRO actually needed.
