Soviet super-heavy lunar rocket
The Soviet Moon rocket — meant to beat Saturn V to the lunar surface. Thirty first-stage engines all firing at once turned out to be unmanageable: four launch attempts between 1969 and 1972, four failures, two pad explosions. The programme was quietly cancelled in 1974.
