Safir
Iranian small-lift orbital rocket
Iran's first orbital rocket put the Omid satellite in orbit on 2 February 2009 — timed to the 30th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. Safir was a two-stage liquid-fuel vehicle that made Iran the ninth country capable of independently reaching orbit. It was later superseded by the larger Simorgh.
