American IRBM-derived orbital rocket family

The US Air Force IRBM that almost accidentally became America's standard medium-lift rocket. Thor was deployed in Britain against the Soviet Union in the late 1950s; after its IRBM life ended, engineers kept adding upper stages until it was called Delta — and Delta flew for 60 years.
