Tsyklon

Soviet ICBM-derived medium-lift orbital rocket

A Ukrainian workhorse derived from the R-36 ICBM, built at the Yuzhmash plant in Dnipro. The Tsyklon-2 flew 106 times with just one failure; the Tsyklon-3 added a third stage and flew until 2009. Both were retired partly because their fuels — toxic hypergolics — were increasingly hard to justify.
