Delta III
American medium-lift rocket for commercial geostationary satellites
Designed to carry twice the payload of the Delta II as satellites grew heavier, Delta III flew three times between 1998 and 2000 and never fully succeeded. The first was destroyed after losing control, the second's upper stage failed and left its satellite in a low orbit, and the third, carrying only a dummy payload, also ended in too low an orbit. Boeing ended the programme in 2003 and moved on to Delta IV.
