Rocket launches in1967

The year opens with catastrophe: the Apollo 1 fire on the pad in January kills three astronauts, and Soyuz 1 crashes on reentry in April, killing Vladimir Komarov — the first in-flight fatality in spaceflight. Both programmes rebuild through the year, and in November Saturn V makes its uncrewed debut on Apollo 4, flying perfectly and clearing the path to the Moon.
