Alexei Leonov steps outside Voskhod 2 in March for the first spacewalk; the USA answers with Ed White on Gemini 4 ten weeks later. By December, Gemini 6 and 7 pull off the first orbital rendezvous, while the Soviet Union runs Kosmos reconnaissance flights through most weeks of the year.
